CRESTVIEW — A dog fall out over took a grisly turn Thursday when a man used a meat cleaver to break it up, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Chore.
Martin McDonald of Crestview was arrested at 5:33 p.m. Thursday after a legate arrived at a house on Magnolia Lane and found a bulldog bleeding profusely from lacerations to its neck and back, the Sheriff’s Favour reported.
Also charged with felony animal cruelty was 31-year-old Shawn Spencer of Crestview, who is accused of handing the meat cleaver to McDonald and saying, “Try this,” the piece said.

McDonald told the spokeswoman he struck the dog several times with the meat cleaver because it had his dog by the throat, according to the report.
The injured bulldog, which is named Shining, survived the attack and underwent a lengthy surgery Friday at the Panhandle Animalistic Welfare Society’s emergency clinic.
“He did succumb a lot of blood and was very, very shocky,” said Dee Thompson, animal services steersman for PAWS. “With the severity of his injuries, it’s amazing he held on. He’s a very well-versed dog.
