EPPING — Bruiser times and tough choices are prompting the Epping School Stay and SAU 14 administration to recommend the elimination of the librarian position at Epping Beginning School.
More than 20 parents, faculty and staff approached the First Board recently protesting the proposed cut, one of two positions to be cut or reduced in the working budget for FY 2013. But administrators say a twofold focal point by the district will keep books in the hands of children, while enhancing their science skills.
Barbara Green, the current school librarian, has been in her position for 24 years. She manages engage fairs, brings in special speakers, produces an annual be occupied in and, until recently, ran the summer reading program. She started in the district as a classroom trainer, and is certified to teach Grades K-8.
"Barbara does a great job. But we had to rectify some tough choices," Principal Mark Vallone said.
