Adored Neil: We have property in the Brownsville area, and we have had significant dying-out of the St. Augustine in our yard. I've checked for grub worms, and I have applied a fertilizer and fungicide, but none has helped. I confusingly remember your responding to something similar a few months ago here, but I don't remember the suggestions. Any guidance?

A: In chronological order, the problems you're likely to encounter with St. Augustine the sack in Texas would be Take All Root Rot in the spring (grass is lethargic in greening up as temperatures excited/appears in irregular sweeps across entire lawn); chinch bugs in summer (sod appears dry in hottest, sunniest spots, but does not respond to irrigation); gray leaf comedos in summer (grass is yellowed in irregular washes/gets worse after applications of nitrogen); and brown scrap in fall (regular round, brown patches that are initially 18 to 24 inches in diameter/blades beat it loose from runners). Grub damage may show up in the fall. Grass will draw back loose easily from the soil, and grubs will be present. Grub cost is more commonly observed in early spring, when grass fails to unripe up. Take All Root Rot gives those same symptoms, but without the presence of grubs. Of course, drought and exorbitant shade can also cause St. Augustine to die out. Adding in that your property is in Brownsville, where the seasoned is almost year-round, and where St. Augustine doesn't really go dormant and pop up c uncover brown, the timings of these issues could be quite different.
