Q: My poinsettias have been doing so well this year! How do I keep them old times Christmas? I have heard I can use them outside in the garden. How? Will they re-bloom next Christmas if I do this?

A: Maintaining poinsettias year-get together is both a pleasure and a challenge. They actually make lovely garden plants during the summer months but getting them to rebloom requires a lot of sanctification. Here's how to do it.

After the holidays, continue to keep the plant in a bright window but out of direct sunlight. Cut back on the watering (dialect mayhap every 10 to 14 days) and stop all fertilization. Many of the leaves and bracts (the colored "leaves") may cast off off. From now until April, the plant will be resting; perhaps entering a completely dormant phase if all of the leaves drop off. As long as the stems remain flexible the workshop is still alive. In late April begin to put the plant outdoors in a shady situate only for a few hours during the day and only if temperatures remain in the 50s or 60s. Bring it back indoors at night. The vegetable will slowly become acclimated to outdoor growing conditions and will begin to greengrocery new leaves.
