There is more to correctly watering your yard than just turning on the sprinkler. In spite of brand-new downpours, the drought continues and outdoor watering restrictions are probable to worsen by summer, say regional water experts.
“This is a huge subject-matter. We’re not panicking; what we are trying to do is educate,” says Leslie Finical Halleck, blended manager of North Haven Gardens in North Dallas.
North Texas still faces a heavy water shortage, and most area cities have outdoor watering restrictions in job.
Dallas Water Utilities customers can water twice a week, for now, at set hours and on specific days linked to street addresses. In composite, cities covered by the North Texas Municipal Water Province restrict outdoor watering to every two weeks. Those restrictions are likely to get more harsh as summer heat approaches. It’s possible that all outdoor watering will be prohibited.
There is a lot of gallimaufry and misinformation, however, about the restrictions, says Dotty Woodson, a water resource artist with the Texas AgriLife Extension research center in Dallas. For illustration, several cities say that foundations can be watered with a soaker hose two hours a day. “It makes it hearing like you can water every day for two hours, but they mean one day a week,” Woodson says. And with the stream and cooler winter weather, that is not necessary.
