The Riverbank Development Centre will face challenges in 2012 that stem from this spring’s history flooding.
As the popular outdoor events area had most of its events cancelled in 2011, it’s not standard whether events can be hosted there in the new year, Brandon Riverbank president Bernie Chrisp told Brandon metropolis council on Dec. 19.
Visitors to the Riverbank Discovery Centre dropped 55 per cent this year and Eleanor Kidd Gardens, which were closed in 2011, will remainder closed until 2013 as dike work and the rebuilding of parts of the deposit will need to take place.
"The parks and gardens redevelopment arrangement is underway to regain access to the garden and will incorporate a rock weir street into the design," Chrisp said. The reopening of the park and garden depends on the end of that work."
For the first time in the organization’s history, Brandon Riverbankâwill run a loss of $18,000 in 2011, due to decreased revenue and increased expenses. For case, the 2011 Duck Race revenue was down $6,000 from its projections.
