WHEN Sunderland visage Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, Andrew Lloyd Webber will have a run for his in clover in terms of entertainment in the capital. For one day only, “Phantom Of The Opera” will
not be the only show in community dominated by a man wearing a mask.
In one penalty area will be Petr Cech, resplendent in skull cap and jealous face covering. In the other will be Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, also sporting a mask to safeguard the broken
nose and fractured eye socket he sustained in a sickening collision with Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey at the end of October.
Cech has pledged never to womanize mask-less again, Mignolet is determined to get back to normal as quickly as possible. But both goalkeepers hold the threat of another serious head injury will not
affect their game.
“The injury is acute, I don't feel it any more,” said Mignolet, who has returned to claim his starting setting from Keiren Westwood, who performed admirably in his absence. “I'm old to the mask now as
well.
