That was the refrain of an organized and vocal crowd of Cannon Beach Elementary School parents in a presentation to the Seaside Tutor Board January 19.

Dozens of parents in matching Save Our Institute t-shirts filled the meeting room at the Seaside School Neighbourhood building and spilled out into the hall in a show of force opposed to the proposed closing Cannon Careen Elementary School.

The school has been identified as unsafe in the event of an earthquake or tsunami, and the neighbourhood has proposed closing the campus, and bussing students to school in Seaside.

Cannon Seaside parents made impassioned statements to the school board about why they want to keep their form local. "I have always wanted to raise kids in a small town, and a cramped knit community like Cannon Beach," said parent, Stacy Rodriguez, "we friendship our teachers, we love the school, we love everything about the community, and the school is a big part of that."

Parents had a two-part bulletin for the school board: first, they want permission to obtain land on higher territory and build a new, earthquake and tsunami safe school; they want the district to team it and operate it as a public school.
