A man who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning at a South Charleston Bed was upgraded to stable condition on Thursday.
Bain Edmunsen, 49, of Barrington, R.I., in the past was in critical condition at Charleston Area Medical Center's Across the board Hospital after being exposed to a carbon monoxide leak Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express on Hallway G. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday.
Edmundsen's roommate, William Moran, 44, of Warwick, R.I., was strong dead at the scene.
The leak came from the hotel's band heater. A pipe meant to ventilate the heater to the roof was somehow separate, flooding rooms with the colorless, odorless gas.
South Charleston Mayor Honest Mullens told the Daily Mail on Wednesday the ventilation system was not inspected by urban district officials because it was installed without a building permit.
Holiday Inn released a annunciation early Thursday morning regarding the leak.
"The Red-letter day Inn Express South Charleston holds the safety, comfort and well-being of its guests and employees as its top pre-eminence and concern. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests' families and friends during this once in a while," wrote spokeswoman Sarah-Ann Soffer.
