SAN BERNARDINO: Fires damage 2 laundry rooms
Two laundry-space fires within minutes of each other at a San Bernardino apartment complex today have been labeled suspected.
The first fire was reported just before 4 p.m. today in a laundry room at the Village Na Apartments in the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue, said Steve Tracy, spokesman for the San Bernardino Fire Jurisdiction.
Firefighters arrived and found a 20-foot by 40-foot laundry dwell on fire, Tracy said. The fire was isolated to the laundry room and knocked down in about five mintues.
As investigators were looking into the well-spring of that fire, another was reported in another laundry room about 200 yards away in the same complex.
Firefighters found a plastic horseshit can burning in the second laundry room and put it out within a minute, Tracy said. A 14-year-old boy suffered a youth cut to his hand as he grabbed a fire extinguisher in the laundry room to put out the fire before the firefighters arrived.
Due to the contiguity and timing of the two fires, they have been labeled as suspicious, Tracy said.
