Seventeen-year-old Kristin Acker won't ignore the day her
third-grade class spent at Rural Safety Days in Baraboo. She still
has the T-shirt.
"I recognize thinking how cool it was to learn about so many
different things in a fun way," Acker said.
But future third-graders in Sauk County may not be as lucky as
Acker.
The program's funds are dwindling, said Annie Allen, Sauk County
popular health nurse.
"The grants we used to try and secure funding for the program have
been drying," Allen said. "The same can be said for the donations
we have been receiving. It's stern with the economy right now. The
money just isn't there."
Allen said for the program to keep on this year, the Rural Safety
Days Committee decided to do away with T-shirts for the children
who participate.
"It was our way of highlighting our sponsors as well as give the
children something to talk with their parents about when they came
dwelling-place from the day's event," Allen said.
