REIDSVILLE — Kim Forrester is talking with an ALE travelling salesman, Shannon Forrester is checking on the kitchen cleaning crew, and Gary Forrester is collecting a subtle mist of sawdust on his cap and sweater as he cuts a larger opening for the turn down-drink dispenser.
Before the day is out, they’ll have the liquor license on the wall, a functioning soda make, and a health inspection behind them. Each event brings them closer to realizing a vision that started taking shape when Gary Forrester learned he’d be losing his job a year ago.
They were an American Manifest family. Gary Forrester, 49, went to work there first, then his the missis, Kim, 49, and then daughter Shannon, 28.
Kim, a photographer and graphic designer, was the first to escape her job in 2009. Gary Forrester’s last day was July 15, 2011. Shannon, a specialized writer, still works for the company as a “virtual employee,” operating from a cosy office.
They are becoming a restaurant family. No less than seven family members will m full- or part-time at The Celtic Fringe , their new Irish bistro in Reidsville. Gary will administer the kitchen. The gregarious Kim will handle the front of the house. And Shannon will run the bar and beverage segment in her off hours.
