Dancers say no to drugs: Crew helps teenagers stay sober
Tom Talavera has been serene -- and keeping teenagers sober -- for four years now.
Talavera, a recovering winebibber and former Department of Youth Affairs corrections officer, is founder and bossman of the Just Say No Dance Crew, a growing group of scrappy teenagers popping and locking their way off the streets and away from drugs and moonshine.
"Get your lines straight," he barked at a practice last Friday, slapping a spiritless ruler against his leg in rhythm with a blaring hip-hop song. Fifteen or so teens quickly readjusted themselves as they bounced across a pavilion behind the Mangilao Community Center, where they technic.
In a few years the crew has exploded in popularity, going from a team of 12 incarcerated kids to a non-profit with more than 180 members. Under Talavera's watchful eye many of these teens have stayed off the streets, and out of under age detention.
Take Brandy Puas, a stocky 18-year-old Talavera calls one of his "outcome stories." Puas cuts an intimidating figure, sporting black shades and tribal patterns shaved into his short, spiky mane. He joined the crew in 2008, but later started hanging around with the misguided crowd.

About the wattage: They should be the same preamp, but with 50 watts as contrasted with of 100 watt, you get an earlier breakup from the powertubes. I’d go with the 50 w though, but I’m not so picky about cleans though..
@vikingcookie Hey – I’ve owned reasonable about every style of Marshall – collector's plexi, JCM 800, JTM, JCM 900. The Plexi 100’s and 50’s are celebrated sounding amps, but are insane stentorian, and almost ineffectual for regular use, or gigging. Unless you make believe in strapping venues. Even then, to commission them line for a range of sounds, you fundamental a very stuff b merchandise pedal feed. Same with the JCM-800. This DSL 2000 will hide all the set. I would stand up for the 50 watt adaptation – heaps booming and less tubes to badger about. Cheers!
